I probably won't get as much done today as yesterday since I will be at church this morning and have a Hebrew lesson in the afternoon. However, I'm warming up my machine now and hope to accomplish a bit. How is everyone else doing?

Way to go, Birdie! Wouldn't you rather sew than mow any day?

I had wondered who Nana was when I have seen her name signed! Now that mystery is solved---your own mother. I know she has been an active Wrap 'Em participant over the years and obviously she is still at it.

Go, girls, go!

Sounds like you are having a fun and productive time. How cool that the kids are helping there Nana quilt.

As you know, Cher, I either didn't know that the dates in June were set or nothing jogged the old memory bank and I made alternative plans for the day. Will try to sew something for Wrap 'Em tomorrow but cheerlead today

So far today, I have finished quilting one quilt which now needs the binding, pinned another biggish one, and have one more big one on the floor waiting to be pinned. Since I had surgery on my eyelid this past Wednesday, the doctor said I couldn't mow the grass, so I'm sewing instead.

I am trying again. This blog thing doesn't seem to like me. Anyway I am quilting a top that I have made, and hope to have it done today for WTIL. And, yes, it does have birds in the fabric this time.

As I posted on the yahoo group-I arrived around 8:45 pm and managed to sew on one label before calling it a night-of course that doesn't count playing with Ellen's two grandchildren and visiting with her and her mom. I had to tour the place as it has changed completely since I was here years ago. You should see all the wonderful quilts stacked up that have been sent in! Such gorgeous work by so many talented quilters. I love each of them. I am looking forward to doing a lot of binding and quilting tomorrow!

Nana arrived at about 1:00 this afternoon. She has been working on sewing donated blocks together. I think she has 4 or 5 tops done already. We're expecting Cher from Portland to arrive late tonight. She was going to leave there after work and it is at least a 5 hour drive.
I have been working on quilting today. With a lot of interruptions, I finally finished two quilts.
I think that tomorrow we will get a fresh start and quilt up a storm after Nana and Cher get some sleep to rest up from traveling. ----Ellen

I am the co-founder of the Bama Belles Quilting Club along with my dear friend Joy. We are located in the NE central Alabama. Joy and I met online first back in the summer of 99 and come to find out actually only lived about 5 miles from each other!

In the fall of 99 we traveled together to Indy and Becky's Bee with another lister from MS. Ellen, Kitty, Hilary, Diane and several others also attended that sew-in. After Joy hosted a retreat at her house in January 2000 in conjunction with a global WTIL Wrap 'Em, the 7 of us in attendance knew we wanted to keep meeting. Unfortunately Joy's other group had no room for that many more people but we didn't let THAT stop us! We formed our own group the following month.

Sadly our co-founder Joy, the "hostess with the mostest" passed away this week. That giving heart just gave out, Trust me, she lived up to her name and inspired scores of area quilters, myself included. Others have come and gone over the years but we still have a core group of about 10 people and still making quilts for Wrap 'Em.

With Ellen's permission we have distributed quite a few quilts in our own area in WTIL's name over the years. At one point we made enough quilts for the entire facility of Presbyterian Home for Children, Boys Big Oak Ranch and Girl's Big Oak Ranch and had about 1200 quilts tallied over the last nine years.

I have my own blog and showcase the Belles' work often. The best is when we have spread all the quilts out on the church pews before we donate them and invite others to come see them--it almost takes my breath away to see them. Then I see what fun Ellen must have when she opens up those boxes all the individuals and groups send!
